About the Nursing and Midwifery Office

The Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer and the Nursing and Midwifery Office provide high level advice and leadership on nursing and midwifery professional, workforce and policy matters across WA Health.

Led by Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer, the Nursing and Midwifery Office sets the strategic direction of the nursing and midwifery professions in WA Health through engagement, partnership and collaboration with nurses and midwives working in private and public sectors, healthcare-related industries, education providers, as well as consumers and other key stakeholders.

In collaboration with members of the Clinical Excellence Division, the Nursing and Midwifery Office’s activities align with the division’s strategic priorities of clinical leadership, use of data and evidence (to improve patient outcomes), research innovation, workforce and strengthening a patient focus.

These are articulated in the Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Direction :

Compassionate care and patient safety.

Workforce Excellence. Building leadership capacity and capability to optimise performance, outcomes and the development of cultures that prioritise Optimise Activity. Innovative models of care that promote nurses and midwives working to their full scope of practice. Making better use of evidence, data and information to inform decision making, improvement and performance outcomes.

Enhance the Care Continuum. Partnering with others to ensure access to quality health care for the most disadvantaged in our community right across the care continuum.
